MAPLETON – Building activity in the township in 2021 exceeded 2020 levels by a substantial margin, according to a year-end report.
The building department report, received by council on Jan. 11, indicates 442 permits for construction valued at nearly $81 million were issued in 2021, generating just under $630,000 in fees.
In 2020, 340 permits were issued for slightly more than $54 million in construction value, generating about $494,000 in fees.
Agricultural and residential constructions were the leading sectors driving the increase.
In 2021, 52 permits were issued for nearly $27 million worth of single-family dwelling construction.
In addition, 46 permits were issued for about $4.6 million worth of additions and renovations to single-family dwellings, 31 permits were issued for just under $2 million worth of accessory structures and 37 permits were issued for almost $450,000 worth of deck construction.
Agricultural construction accounted for 132 permits in 2021, totalling close to $27 million in construction value.
Industrial construction represented the next largest segment, with 19 permits issued for about $7.7 million worth of construction.
In December of 2021 there were 16 permits issued for just over $5.7 million worth of construction, compared to 11 permits for about $80,000 worth of construction in 2020.
Mayor Gregg Davidson commented the building department was very active in 2021.
“The group has been busy and our community has been building like crazy … And it’s continuing on so far in 2022,” he stated.
