Man charged in bomb threats

GUELPH – A Peterborough man has been arrested in connection with a number of bomb threats, including one involving Guelph libraries.

Guelph Police officials say that between Nov. 9 and 10, someone “emailed bomb threats to various libraries, schools and hotels across Ontario and in Vancouver.”

One of the threats resulted in Guelph Public Library branches being evacuated on the evening of Nov. 10.

Peterborough police took over the investigation when it was alleged the messages were sent from an address in that city. On Nov. 10 at 10:10pm, investigators executed a search warrant on a Peterborough residence.

A 40-year-old Peterborough man was charged with eight counts of conveying a false message, eight counts of public mischief, and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The man (Guelph Police generally do not name those charged with offences) was held in custody and was to appear in court on Nov. 13.
