Magic festival returns to Fergus Grand Theatre

FERGUS – If the world could use a little magic right now, Ryan Joyce is more than happy to comply.

Joyce has organized the OWOW Magic Festival, with two shows at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Oct. 15.

A magician himself, Joyce said it was wonderful to reconnect with other performers to pull the festival together.

Magic Mike Segal, whose magic camp inspired Disney’s Magic Camp movie, is the headliner for the matinee performance at 2pm. Tickets for the Family Magic Show Matinee are $10 for kids and $15 for adults.

The evening show is geared more to adults and features the “delightfully creepy” magician Nicholas Wallace and the mind-reading duo, The Sentimentalists.

Tickets for the 8pm Tricks and Other Mysteries show are $30.

“As I get older, my friends are becoming more accomplished and accredited,” Joyce said.

“I’m so happy to be showcasing these amazing artists.”

The first OWOW Magic Festival was in 2019 and while there was a great turnout, there was also the great pandemic in 2020 that effectively shut down the festival.

Joyce said organizers offered a virtual show last year with an escape artist in a straight jacket dangling over the Elora Gorge – an event he called “a ton of fun.”

But magic is often best-experienced live, and Joyce said he’s looking forward to seeing the theatre filled and the performers at their best.

“You don’t want to miss this,” Joyce said.

“It’s a star-studded line-up and your only opportunity for an incredible night of magic downtown Fergus.”

Tickets are available online at magicfestival.ca or the Fergus Grand Theatre box office.
