Local dance students audition for The Nutcracker with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen

GUELPH – Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will return to the River Run Centre on Dec. 22 and 23 at 7:30pm with The Nutcracker.

Once again, local dance students will be given the opportunity to perform with the professional dancers of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.

Nutcracker auditions are scheduled for Sept. 7 at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph.

Interested young dancers between the ages of 8 and 17 years are asked to register online at Canada’s Ballet Jörgen website www.canadasballetjorgen.ca. Select “Education” and follow the “Youth Participant” link to “The Nutcracker Local Participant Program.” Complete the registration form. Dancers will receive a telephone call within 10 business days confirming the exact time of their audition.

Selected students should be prepared to attend rehearsal for the remainder of Sept. 7 and all day Sept. 8.

Dance students must commit to attend all weekly Sunday rehearsals at Royal City School of Ballet and Jazz in Guelph.

Performances take place Dec. 22 and 23 at River Run Centre, downtown Guelph.

Students will need to be available throughout both days for dress rehearsal with the ballet company and evening performances at 7:30pm.

The Nutcracker

Choreographed by Bengt Jörgen to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s well-loved score, this delightful re-working of the timeless classic is born from a collaboration with the world-renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Ballet Jörgen’s The Nutcracker features as backdrops, Canada’s 20th Century landscape artists Franklin Carmichael’s Church and Houses at Bisset (1931), Tom Thomson’s Snow in the Woods (1916) and L.L. FitzGerald’s Trees and Wildflowers (1922).

Audiences embark on a grand journey through the northern lands filled with snowflakes, trilliums and woodland creatures.

Roles such as Deer, Beaver, Frog, Dragonfly, Squirrel and Bear Cub will be filled by young dancers selected during the auditions on Sept. 7.
