Local agency benefits from United Way Day of Caring

An employee team from TransAlta Corporation took part in United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin’s annual Day of Caring at the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) office in Mount Forest on Oct. 16.

Employees from TransAlta provided landscape services to the agency, creating a garden space for their Adult Day Program.  The garden will be home to several varieties of herbs and some vegetables, providing inputs for the Meals on Wheels program that is operated out of the VON office.

The garden will also provide an activity for participants in the agency’s Alzheimer Day Program, giving attendees the opportunity to participate in a productive outdoor activity that has several mental and physical benefits.

TransAlta Corporation annually allows employees a work day to volunteer in their community.  This year, there were two other teams of employees in Orangeville locations completing yard work and painting projects at several locations.

A United Way Day of Caring is a program that sees teams of employees take time from their workday to volunteer at local charities. For United Way, arranging a Day of Caring volunteer experience is a way to support local charities in addition to providing financial support.

United Way’s annual multi-million dollar campaign raises funds for 95 social service programs, including VON, across Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin counties.
