‘Wonderful people’

Dear Editor:

I am writing to say thank you to all the people who stopped to help when my car slid into the ditch last Monday. I had missed my turn and proceeded to make a U-turn which I, unfortunately, took too wide and my right front tire slid into the ditch.

As soon as it happened I called my friend and prayed that God would send help. Nearly every car that passed stopped to offer help.

The first was a postal worker who stopped to see if I was okay and later returned to double-check. While I had CAA on the phone, a van pulled up. Brad and Theresa from RB Doors and Hardware then proceeded to try and push me out. When that proved impossible, they flagged down the next vehicle.

Two gentlemen (Jessie and I’ve forgotten the other man’s name) got filthy on the ground under my car while securing a strap to pull me out.

While this was going on, my friend and employer Gigi came by with salt and a shovel. The kindness of these strangers who were on their way somewhere yet stopped to help was overwhelming. Not one of these people seemed worried about COVID; they saw a need and stepped right in.

Should I have attempted a U-turn where I did? Perhaps not, but not once did any of these people make me feel more embarrassed than I already was. I may never see these people again but I want them to know how grateful I am for their assistance. May God bless each of them for their kindness.

These wonderful people represent the Canada that I know and love. Thank you.
