‘Vote wisely’

Dear Editor:

In a new TV ad, Andrew Scheer said, “My plan for Canadians? Lower the cost of living and leave more money in your pockets.”

But the Conservative climate plan will use regulations and technology to solve the climate crisis, which every economist confirms will cost a lot more money than a carbon tax.

Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong gave me an example of a previous fuel efficiency regulation that, at $400/tonne of CO2 equivalent, would have been achieved with a $30/tonne carbon tax.

Scheer also wants to eliminate the climate action incentive, or carbon tax rebate, that every taxpayer in Ontario received this spring.

Scheer says, “I think it’s time for you to get ahead.” How, by going backwards? Through more expensive policies? By taking away your rebate? By hiding the true cost of solving the climate crisis from taxpayers?

Someone named Scheer should be more transparent with the truth. Vote wisely this October.
