Thief stole from us all

RE: Prefers warnings, Feb. 13.

First, did the author ask themselves why there is a camera in a thrift store in the first place? Perhaps theft is an ongoing issue.

Many people shop in that store. Yes, to clothe themselves and their children, but also purchase for repurpose, or resell on various web sites, or even to stock their booth at the local antique barn. You don’t believe me, ask people shopping there.

There are different reasons for donating too. From, “its a great place to get rid of stuff and I like the charity,” to someone breaking down the home of a loved one, or the individual who makes a conscience choice to give an item of note with the hope it will get to the silent auction.

The pieces earmarked for the silent auction are not everyday run of the mill items, but rather rare, vintage, unusual in nature, or of above average in quality. Our thief didn’t steal just any backpack but something of quality, slated for that auction, and was bold enough to try for the second. These are items donated in good faith to support a chosen charity. Not the thief.

Finally this individual not only stole from the store, but from you and me. Why? The New to You raises funds to support the hospital which is there for all of us, including the thief.
