‘The gift of closure’

Dear Editor:

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) knows that not everyone will have the need to report criminal activity. But if you are aware of criminal activity, this message is for you.

This holiday season give the gift of closure.

Simply put, the information you have can resolve a crime that has a victim. Perhaps many victims. Those victims will need closure to move on with their lives. That closure comes when someone is held accountable, or the crime is resolved in some fashion.

Perhaps a special piece of jewelry has been stolen and the owner is heartsick not having the gift from a grandparent? Maybe a family no longer feels safe in their home because of a break and enter. There may be an empty chair at the table because a member of the family is missing or deceased, and their loved ones don’t know where they are.

And you could give the gift of closure.

Allow a family to move forward with healing and put a painful experience behind them. We know not everyone wants the cash reward. They give tips to help stop a bad thing that’s happening in their community.

Are you close to someone who has committed a crime? By telling us, they will never know you provided the information. Tips are confidential and tipsters are anonymous. Regardless of the day, or time of day, CSGW can take tips by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS or by webtip at www.csgw.tips. We are always open.

This simple act will be more valuable than you will ever know.

The holiday season is a challenging time for victims of crime, who deal with their hurt and loss in the midst of joy and celebration. Telling what you know could also help you deal with the burden of this knowledge.

Imagine, you have the power to give the greatest gift of all: the gift of closure.
