Supporting the trades

Dear Editor:

RE: New lathe arrives at Wellington Heights, March 16.

The picture and accompanying article in the Community News of Wellington Heights Secondary School manufacturing teacher Erick Rauser, posing with the new lathe made me very joyful.

For far too long the trades have had a dim light cast upon them. It is uplifting to see the resurgence in educating students in the trades.

When I recall my first days of grade 9 machine shop with teacher Duncan Berry at Norwell District Secondary School, it was a fascinating world opened up to me. I grabbed hold and never looked back.

Fast forward to when my sons attended Centre Wellington District High School.

I was disappointed to see all that had been lost.

The skilled trades have served me well in my working days and I know they will for other generations to come.

There is no shame in getting your hands dirty to make an honest living.
