‘Puzzling’

Dear Editor:

We are writing because of our frustration and exasperation due to the bridge closures in our area.

This situation has been going on for many years, starting with the bridge outage on Sideroad 15. Over a year ago, the bridge at the end of the 5th Line was closed and now Wellington Road 16 is closed due bridge repair.

Also, the Bailey Bridge just south of us is in very bad shape. It has been open and closed and now has been patched with plywood. This is not only extremely inconvenient but is dangerous as emergency vehicles must be redirected and time is wasted.

We own a bed and breakfast on the 5th Line, and the situation affects us greatly. Google and GPSs do not warn of the closures. Many of our guests arrive angry and frustrated. We have a business licence, pay income tax and collect HST. Our property taxes are over $10,000 a year.

Realizing that every homeowner in Centre Wellington pays money towards bridge repair, where does this money go?

It is puzzling that council approved a $47-million expenditure for a public works and office building when county roads and bridges are dangerous and in disrepair.
