‘Mend and make do’

Dear Editor:

RE: Reuse, recycle, Jan. 9.

During the war when all facilities were directed to the war effort, we had a slogan: “mend and make do and save buying new.”

It was amazing how we could extend the life of our clothes by repairing, patching, darning, etc.  These skills seem to have been lost nowadays, but we can revive them if we truly want to preserve the Earth. And as an extra benefit, we save money.
