Media money

Dear Editor:

An open letter to the leaders of Canada’s federal political parties.

Stop wasting our tax dollars on the CBC and on bailing out failed traditional media. The media has to be totally independent from government.

Just like our ancestors fought for a separation of church and state many years ago, so now we need a separation of government and media.

If the CBC were gone, Canadians would step up to tell their own story without the government’s slant. The internet is there for all to use. You could say the internet is the new printing press, which revolutionized Europe in the Reformation.

The way things are now the government is behaving like medieval Roman Catholic Popes issuing a bunch of bull. The government is not the voice of any god.

As a freethinking citizen, I say, “No more tax dollars for the media.” Put the money toward our debt.

Jane Vandervliet,
