Making a difference

Dear Editor:

Recently, Sensational Elora presented cheques to the Centre Wellington Food Bank and Centre Wellington District High School’s breakfast program totaling more than $10,000.

Since its inception, Sensational Elora has donated approximately $130,000 to these two organizations and, in recent years, we have donated to Elora Centre for the Arts. We have also ensured that Monster Month (featuring Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo) and Monster March both remain active in Elora.

We are extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish with a very small board of directors, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of many members of our community. There are far too many who have contributed to be named individually, but we want to express our gratitude to the volunteers who help us with our various events, including Centre Wellington Rotary at Sensational Soup-Off, tutu-in-you and The Sparrows nest for Monster March, Grand River Tree and township parks and rec volunteers for helping with the installation and removal of “monsters”, and all of the individual volunteers who helped us repair “monsters” throughout the summer and fall.

We want to thank our sponsors who support us year after year. We want to thank the potters who contribute their beautiful handmade bowls for our Empty Bowls program each year, the soup makers who donate their time and their soup to Sensational Soup-Off, the pubs that work with us to make Fabulous Fergus Pub Night so successful, and the Gorge Cinema who work with us for Film-on-a-Plate.

For everyone I mentioned, and anyone I forgot, you have made a difference for the last 11 years. We hope you will remain on board for the foreseeable future.

For 2020, Sensational Elora is facing a dilemma. Our board has become depleted to the point that we cannot manage all of our events. If you would like to get involved, please contact us at info@sensationalelora.com.

To misquote The Beatles, “We’ll get by with a little help from our friends.”
