Lack of respect

Dear Editor:

The letters to the editor on Feb. 10 demonstrated your commitment to journalistic freedom.

The Wellington North writer equated the protesters’ actions in Ottawa to the heroism of Second World War veterans. These same heroic protesters urinated on the cenotaph in Ottawa and trampled the grave of the unknown soldier.

Possibly the author of this letter is unaware of the death toll in the two great wars. It is certain though that soldiers on the western front did not carry Nazi flags nor Confederate ones.

The medical qualifications of this individual were not printed yet his lack of concern for public health and safety are evident. Possibly the number of those who died from COVID-19 is also unknown to the writer.

Did his help “wherever and whenever” needed, translate into positive support in our nursing homes?

It is always interesting to read dissenting views that are based on science, on fact and on public health measures. Rereading this letter gave no indication that these three concerns have influenced his opinion. Holding Ottawa residents hostage to their misinformed thoughts is not noble or sensible and it certainly shows a lack of respect for our democracy.
