Dutch day welcomed

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to Michael Chong for his recent  free letter to his constituents in this area. I hope you didn’t throw it away.

Look for the 2019 sedition and, if you happen to know some Dutch friends, quickly tell them to read page 2 of Michael’s letter and they  will be ecstatic.

The short story is next May 5 will be the first “Dutch Heritage Day,” to be celebrated in Canada.

This day is celebrated  in Holland because they were finally freed in 1945 – and it was by the Canadian soldiers. After years of Nazi domination, on May 5, they were free again! Now Canada will remember that happy day again too, with a country-wide celebration.

Maybe we will see a “klompen dans” and lots of “hopsasa,” as the Dutch let their hair down with joy and feel they can show Canada how much they appreciate this country!

We have waited a long time for this to come.
