I’m writing in regards to the Xinyi Glass Plant proposed for County Rd 32 near Hwy 124. The plant will rise 7 stories in height, have a roof area in excess of 40 acres and feature a 300′ smokestack. Support for the project amongst those living in the area is non-existent.  The Mayor of Guelph-Eramosa supports it though it is notable that he lives distant from the site. When the Plant begins to pull 1.6 million litres of water daily from the ground, it will not be his well that runs dry. When the traffic worsens at the corners of #32 and  #124, it will not be him in gridlock. And when  this colossus is built, it will not be him living in the shadows of heavy industry or downwind of a smokestack, his neighbourhoods degraded.

We are not opposed to industry moving into this area. The existing industries are ones with which we peacefully co-exist, conventional in size as they are. But the fact that so many bylaw amendments are being sought, many contrary to the County and the Provincial Plans, tell us that this particular endeavour is on a scale too large for this site.

We will be attending the public consultation being held at 7pm at the Marden Community Center on May 9th and look forward with interest to the Municipal Elections scheduled for the Fall.
