‘Another scandal’

Dear Editor:

Another scandal comes to light! Last spring we heard about the  corrupt SNC-Lavalin company which was caught bribing officials to get business in Africa.

But who heard  any mention about a memorial for the soldiers killed in Afghanistan? Well, the memorial didn’t get any attention. Family members were not even told!

Finally, only after a family member  inquired about a reported memorial, an invitation was sent to  the families this week – and  only then was an official remembrance ceremony held.

Usually when young Canadians are asked by our country to give up their lives in order to fulfill some  international peacekeeping plan  agreed to by our government, they are extolled as patriots.

Surely when they die, or are crippled in war, they should at least  be remembered with a memorial.
