ELORA – Former Elora Mohawks player Kurtis Woodland has signed a one-year contract with the New York Riptide of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
The Mohawks tweeted congratulations to Woodland, who also played for the Fergus Thistle and CW Mohawks.
Last January he was drafted in the second round by the Brampton Excelsiors, in the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Senior A league, after reaching the age limit for the Junior B Mohawks.
Woodland was the top scorer in the Canadian Junior B championship in 2018, where the Mohawks won the Founders Cup, with 16 goals and 24 assists. He won the MVP award for the regular season.
The Elora Mohawks are also sending congratulations to goaltender Nolan Clayton, who was signed by the Vancouver Warriors of the NLL.
In a release Aug. 8, the Warriors announced the signing of Clayton, 24, a former member of the Centre Wellington Mohawks, the Mohawks Jr. B team and Orangeville Northmen Jr. A, pending league approval.
He has been playing this summer with the Brampton Excelsiors of Major Series Lacrosse in Ontario.
“Our eastern scout Jamie Dubrick has been keeping an eye on Nolan for the past year or so,” said Warriors GM Dan Richardson.
“We believe that Nolan can come in and compete for a spot in Vancouver.”
