Junior Farmers keeping busy this summer

Summer months have the Wellington Junior Farmers club busy with many events, for both community betterment and fundraising, along with the odd social time.

During the month of July, the club has been busy with a fundraising car wash and barbeque, photo scavenger hunts, and committee meetings for  upcoming events.

That will seem like nothing compared to the busy schedule for August, when many on-going projects will come to fruition. President Matt Dann admits the pace is busy, but he enjoys the challenge.

“We seem to have either an event or meeting every week through the summer, but that means we are helping spread the word about the club,” Dann said.

As July winds down, the club is switching gears from fundraising and social activities to events planned in conjunction with local fairs and shows. The list includes running Farm Olympics at Drayton and Harriston fairs, and running a pig roast and dance at the Palmerston Fair, along with assisting at the Grand River Tractor Pull.

The main goals of these events are to spread awareness of Junior Farmers while having fun. Junior Farmers is a club for youths aged 15 to 30, who do not necessarily need farm experience.

The provincial organization has many local clubs, and all are dedicated to building leadership skills and taking part in community betterment projects while giving members the opportunity to make new friends.
