Joyride leads to charges

CENTRE WELLINGTON   On Oct. 18 at about 6:30pm, Wellington County OPP received a driving complaint from the owner of a vehicle dealership who had received numerous driving complaints about a loaner vehicle in and around Fergus and needed to locate the vehicle.

Police say officers patrolled the area and saw the grey sedan roll through several stop signs on Kelsowood Lane in Fergus. Police continued to follow the vehicle and allegedly locked it on radar at more than 100km/h in a 40km/h school zone.

“Police conducted a traffic stop and as the driver and passenger attempted to switch positions, the vehicle began to roll backwards towards the cruiser, however the operator did manage to put the vehicle into park before they collided,” police stated in a press release.

Jaymz Tilcox, 22, of Southgate Township, was charged with racing a motor vehicle, careless driving, failing to prevent vehicle being set in motion and two counts of driving while suspended. He is to appear in Guelph court on Jan. 15. The driver’s licence and the vehicle were seized for seven days.
