Impaired driving

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Aug. 23 just after midnight, Wellington County OPP officers investigated the driver of a vehicle on Wellington Road 7 near the 2nd Line for an alleged driving infraction.

“As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the driver vomiting as well as showing signs of impairment and (an) open container of alcohol was observed beside the driver,” police stated in a press release.

Police say officers spoke to the male driver and conducted a roadside screening device test.

Victor James Cecchini, 30, of Guelph, was charged with impaired driving, driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system, speeding, driving without proper rear lights and driving with liquor readily available. He is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 27.

HARRISTON – On Aug. 23 at about 2:30am, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a call about a suspicious white cube van, which turned out to be stolen, at a business on Elora Street here.

Police say officers spoke to the male driver, seized a capped syringe and a baggy that contained suspected crystal methamphetamine, and transported the driver to an OPP station for testing.

Zachary Blundell, 25, of Hanover, was charged with driving while impaired by drug, driving while prohibited, possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine. He is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 24.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Aug. 23 at about 3:10am, a Wellington County OPP officer was travelling on Wellington Road 7 when the cruiser was passed on the shoulder by speeding silver sedan.

Police say the officer followed the vehicle, which reached speeds upwards of 135km/h (in an 80km/h zone), stopped the vehicle, spoke to the male driver and conducted a roadside screening device test.

Brian Garfield Floto, 45, of Guelph, was charged with driving over 80mg and racing. He is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 24.

In the above incidents the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days
