Impaired driving

GUELPH – On May 31 at about 2:30am, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue.

Police say officers spoke to the male driver of a passenger vehicle that then drove away, heading south and crossing into the northbound lanes of the Hanlon. The vehicle was followed after failing to stop for police. It entered an industrial area near Laird Road and was involved in a crash. The driver fled on foot and was arrested shortly thereafter with the assistance of Guelph Police Service members and the canine unit.

Todd Francis McCowan, 31, of Mississauga, was  charged with driving while impaired by drug, failure or refusal to comply with a demand for a sample, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, failing to comply with a probation order and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

He was held in custody for a June 4 bail hearing.

FERGUS – On June 3 at about 11:15pm, Wellington County OPP officers received a report of a suspected impaired driver on Tower Street South here.

Police say officers spoke to the  driver and, suspecting she was impaired by drugs, transported her to a local OPP station for testing. Coreena Fuller, 43, of Wellington North, was charged with driving while impaired by drug. She is to appear in Guelph court on July 9.

In the above incidents the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days
