Hospital foundation seeks community members for MRI campaign committee

PALMERSTON – The Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation (PDHF) seeks community members to participate in an MRI campaign committee.

The Province of Ontario recently announced the award of an MRI machine, which will be located at the Palmerston and District Hospital.

“The government funding does not cover the capital costs of purchasing the MRI scanner,” stated North Wellington Health Care president and CEO Angela Stanley.

“The cost of purchasing the MRI equipment, and retrofitting the shell space, is the hospital’s responsibility through the generous support of the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation.”

The foundation is looking forward to launching a fundraising campaign to make that a reality, states a press release from the organization.

“We are grateful to the province for the support through operating funds for this important diagnostic tool, especially in our under-serviced rural area, and we are excited to fundraise for the equipment and renovation costs to bring this service to Palmerston, which we anticipate being between $6 million and $8 million,” states PDHF chair Earl Campbell.

“We rely on the generosity of our local donors and look further into the broader catchment area for support of this exciting new regional service,” adds Campbell.

Over the next few months, the foundation will form an MRI campaign committee, which will operate as a sub-committee of the foundation.

“Several foundation directors have already committed to serve on this committee, but we are open to having community leaders and people passionate about rural health care join the team,” explains Campbell.

The committee is expected to operate for up to three years, depending on how quickly the funds are raised.

Anyone who would like to share their connections and skills with this committee, is encouraged to contact the foundation office at 519-343-2030 ext. 87701, and development officer Dale Franklin will be in touch.
