Gun, drugs found during routine stop by police

PUSLINCH – A Georgian Bluffs man has been charged after a seemingly routine stop here last week resulted in police seizing drugs and a gun from a vehicle.

On Jan. 28 at about 12:45am a Wellington County OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Wellington Road 34 near Brock Road in Puslinch Township for an alleged provincial offences violation. Police say the driver was wanted by another Ontario police service.

Police arrested the driver and discovered he was in possession of a quantity of cannabis, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency.

“The driver was also in unlawful possession of photo identification,” stated police, adding officers also found a loaded hand gun in the vehicle.

Richard Brian Wismer, 37, of Georgian Bluffs Township, was charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, knowledge of an unauthorized weapon, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, two counts of possession of an unauthorized identity document, trafficking methamphetamines, trafficking Clonazepam, driving with cannabis readily available and four counts of driving while suspended.

He is to appear in Guelph court on March 6.
