Gallery Concert Series returns

ABOYNE – On Feb. 23 at 2pm the Gallery Concert Series returns with a suite of spring music for a winter’s day.

The exhibition room at the Wellington County Museum will serve as the venue for this performance of the Cantabile String Quartet.

The exhibition of landscape paintings in evolution, from sketches to finished work will be on display.

The spring music offerings will include excerpts from The Seasons by Vivaldi, blended, arranged and played by the string quartet: Paul McNaughton, first violin;  Jay Samuel, second violin; Kirby Julian, viola; and Murray Charters, cello; with special guest pianist Rebekah Jordan-Miller.

This is followed by the Quintet in E Flat Major by Mozart, arranged for strings and piano.

After a brief intermission during which the audience can visit museum exhibits, the quartet will return with The Golliwog’s Cakewalk by Debussy, the haunting Gabriel’s Oboe of Ennio Morricone rearranged for strings, and the Quintet in C Minor for strings and piano by Borodin.

This full afternoon of spring-filled music, sponsored by the Elora Fergus Arts Council, ends with a reception where contributing musicians interact with the audience over complementary refreshments.

Tickets are $10 at the door  and $1 for students.
