Fourth annual golf tournament will raise cash to fight cancer

The fourth annual Mary Lynne Forrest charity golf tournament is planned for July 23 at the Pike Lake Golf and Country Club resort.

Forrest lost her battle to cancer in November of 2002. The Forrest family has shown strong commitment to the community ever since by organizing an annual golf tournament in her honour.

Over three years, the tournament has raised over $76,000 for the oncology unit at the Louise Marshall Hospital and $120,000 for the Palmerston and District Hospital dialysis unit. The cancer unit currently up and running and the dialysis unit set to open in June are helping patients receive quality care much closer to home.

This year the golf tournament will be supporting the purchase of an echocardiogram machine for the Louise Marshall Hospital.  Echocardiograms perform ultrasounds of the heart. The tournament goal is to raise $60,000 towards the cost of that machine.
