Former Mohawks goaltender drafted by Calgary Roughnecks

PHILADELPHIA – Lacrosse goaltender Landon Kells, a former member of the Elora Mohawks Junior B team, has been selected by the Calgary Roughnecks in the 2019 National Lacrosse League entry draft held Sept. 17.

Kells was drafted 46th overall, the only goaltender selected by last season’s league champions, in the draft held at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.

The team selected a total of seven players.

“We were able to add variety of players who bring a combination of skill, size and compete to the lineup,” said Mike Board, Roughnecks General Manager, on the team website.

“We are looking forward to a very competitive camp and are excited to see what our new, young prospects will bring to the floor.”

The Elora Mohawks tweeted out congratulations to Kells, who just the week before had won the Mann Cup championship as a member of the Peterborough Lakers Senior A team.

He had completed his first full season with the Junior A Lakers.

He was then called up to assist the Senior A team at the Mann Cup in British Columbia.

When the Mohawks won the national Jr. B championship in 2018, Kells was named Elora’s player of the game, and goalie of the tournament.
