Food Cycle Ride moves to ‘virtual’ format this year

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Food Cycle Ride, which benefits the Centre Wellington Food Bank, is the latest event to move to a “virtual” format this year due to the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 10th annual ride, originally scheduled for May 31, will be held virtually between Aug. 9 and 23, with participants riding on their own time – either indoors or outside.

“Unfortunately the ongoing pandemic prevented the traditional group event,” states a May 25 press release from organizers.

“However, the ride organizing team felt the need to help [the Centre Wellington Food Bank] was even greater this year, but warranted a more appropriate format.”

Officials invite participants to use an established Food Cycle Ride route or one of their own choosing.

As in the past, registration is $25 and participants are encouraged to solicit donations from friends and family in the form of pledges.

“Sharing of the event and individual routes is encouraged through photographs, which will be shown on various social media,” organizers state.
