Firm invited to submit proposal for design and construction of library

The County of Wellington will invite VG Architects of Brantford to submit a proposal for the consultation process and architectural services for the design and construction of the new Hillsburgh Library.

At the Nov. 26 meeting, Wellington County council approved an information, heritage and seniors committee recommendation to invite a submission from the firm, which worked on the Fergus library project and was one of two firms invited to submit proposals on the ongoing Palmerston library restoration.

“Over the last few years the County of Wellington has developed an excellent working relationship with two architectural firms; The Ventin Group Architects (VG), of Brantford and L. Alan Grinham Architects of Guelph,” notes a staff report from purchasing and risk management services manager Mark Bolzon.

He noted the process follows the county’s purchasing policy, which allows for the bid process to be determined by the appropriate council committee and allows for the use of open or invited proposals under certain conditions.

Council also authorized the library board to strike a design committee to work with staff to review the proposal submission, interview the firm, make a recommendation to council and participate in the design process for this project.

Members of the design committee will consist of county staff and interested members of the library board.
