Fireworks Festival returns to Mount Forest July 14 to 17

MOUNT FOREST – The popular Mount Forest Firework festival returns this weekend after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival kicks off Thursday night with the fourth annual “Git Yer Hillbilly On” Mount Forest Ribfest at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex on July 14 from 6 to 9pm.

The Ribfest will be licensed and feature live music as well as the traditional rib-cooking competition.

The price for a rib dinner, including coleslaw, baked beans and dessert, is $25. There will also be taster tickets to purchase so fans can sample various ribs from competitors.

Day two on July 15 features a midway, Retro Family Roller Skating, with a Legion hospitality tent through the day and a burnout competition and demolition derby in the evening, followed by a mini-fireworks display at 10pm.

Day three, July 16, begins with firefighters breakfast at the Mount Forest fire hall from 7am to noon. The festival’s classic car show begins at 8am. Other events include a farmer’s market, helicopter rides, live music, food trucks, an obstacle course, axe throwing and a chicken barbecue at the Legion.

Jaunita and the Big Deal and the Upside of Maybe perform at festival park beginning at 7:30pm and the main event fireworks display takes place at 10pm.

Day four on July 17 includes a Touch a Truck event at the sports complex and a soap box derby on Princess street. The Legion hospitality tent will also be operating on Sunday.
