Fergus man gets his second Juno nomination in Classical Composition

Jeffrey Ryan has received his second Juno award nomination for Quantum Mechanics.
That is the title track from his latest CD of chamber music.
He is nominated in the Classical Composition. He received a nomination for Pangacea in 2005.
Ryan was born in Toronto and raised in Fergus.
His  compositions include opera, choral music, chamber ensemble and orchestral works, and his arrangements have been performed and broadcast across Canada and internationally.
His father, Reuben, noted that he served as composer-in-residence with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for five years, and the orchestra wanted him to remain.
However, the term usually ends after three years.
He is also a composer advisor for the chamber music section of Music Toronto and he served for two seasons as an affiliate composer with the Toronto Symphony.
He said of this year’s award, “it’s a very strong slate of nominees this year, and I’m thrilled that my piece is among them.”
The Junos in his category will be announced in Calgary on April 5, but Ryan will miss them.
“I have a premiere in Vancouver that night,” he said of his schedule
