Fergus dog park hit by vandals – again

Sometime between June 11 and 12 someone spray painted graffiti on signs and other items at the park

FERGUS – Police are looking for help to identify the person(s) responsible for defacing property at the Fergus dog park.

Sometime between June 11 at 9pm and June 12 at 8:50am, someone spray painted graffiti on signs and other items at the dog park, located on Glengarry Crescent.

“Township employees immediately notified OPP and began cleaning up the damage,” states a June 17 press release from the Wellington County OPP.

A resident who originally alerted the Advertiser to the vandalism, suggested the graffiti included sentiments opposing the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, but police say they can’t confirm that.

“I am unable to interpret whether or not the suspect/s are supporters of the BLM Campaign or not – regardless it is damage to property and that is a criminal offence,” OPP spokesperson Cheri Rockefeller stated in an email.

However, the graffiti does include the words “black lives” and “BLM.”

The Fergus dog park has been hit by vandals a few times in recent years, notably last December, when someone drove a vehicle into the park and destroyed bushes, trees and agility equipment.

Anyone with information regarding this incident can contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip on-line at www.csgw.tips.
