Federal funding provided for Canada Day party

A local church will receive federal funding in 2015 for an annual Canada Day celebration here.

Perth-Wellington MPP Gary Schellenberger announced on May 13 that Crossroads Life Church will receive $3,600 through the Department of Canadian Heritage Celebrate Canada program to assist it in offering Canada Day Activities on July 1.

The church traditionally hosts a Canada Day gathering for the entire community, featuring jump houses, give-aways, family-affordable food, live entertainment and an impressive fireworks display.

Four other organizations in the riding, all in Perth County, will receive a combined total of $8,500 for activities organized on special days during the Celebrate Canada period from June 21 to July 1. The period includes National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27, and Canada Day on July 1.

“I am delighted that our government is providing support for Canada Day celebrations in Perth-Wellington,”  said Schellenberger.

“Canada Day is a wonderful opportunity for friends, families and neighbours to come together to express our national pride and celebrate living in a free, democratic, bilingual and multicultural country.”
