Erin Mayor”™s notice of motion fails; Code of Conduct complaints pile up

Mayor Lou Maieron’s attempt to have a staff code of ethics match council’s code of ethics has died on the table.

The motion, which had been brought forward at a  number of council sessions, failed to get a seconder during the Sept. 23 council session.

Maieron’s motion asked “That the staff code of conduct be amended to reflect the Town of Erin council code of conduct (ethics) in every aspect possible – excluding only specific duties/responsibilities attributable to an elected official.”

When no members of council seconded the motion, Maieron spoke to the audience directly.

“New councillors may want to make note of that,” he said.

More complaints filed

Meanwhile, the number of code of conduct complaints against councillors in Erin continues to grow.

In a verbal report, CAO Kathryn Ironmonger said on Sept. 23 that she had stated at a previous council meeting there were five code of conduct complaints lodged in Erin.

“Since then, I have received three additional, which brings the total to eight,” she said.
