Fergus - The Elora Community Theatre has announced three plays for the 2008-2009 season.
All of the performances are held at the Fergus Grand Theatre.
Opening on Nov. 7 and running until Nov. 15 is the first-ever remount of Doctor Norman Craig’s 1933 play, You’re Lucky if You’re Killed. The script, originally performed at the Fergus Grand Theatre, examines the lives and attitudes of young men from a small town through the conflict of World War I. Several school matinees are scheduled in addition to the regular performances.
Bronwyn Allen Hill and Gary Bryant direct this, the first known Canadian war play.
The winter production is Anne of Green Gables (the play). The drama is adapted by Joseph Robinette from the L.M. Montgomery novel of 100 years ago, and features a large cast of adults and children.
Deb Stanson will be returning to the ECT director’s chair for this delightful family show. This play will be presented Feb. 6 to 8 and 12 to 14.
A Canadian comedy from the early days of the Blyth Festival: The Shortest Distance Between Two Points, by Keith Roulston, the founder of the Blyth Festival, will be performed during the first two weekends of May (1 to 3 and 7 to 9). The script looks with humour at a small town whose identity and heritage are threatened by a new proposed highway.
The production will be directed by Gary Seibert.
