Drayton Fair set for next weekend

The annual Drayton Fair is set for next weekend, Aug. 6 to 8. Of special interest will be the events to showcase the best of the region’s food and those who produce it.

On Saturday and Sunday regional chefs will demonstrating seasonal recipes and offering a taste of the same. Area food producers will be offering samples of cheeses, ice cream, meats, and produce and the chance to take some home.

While there will be the usual crowd pleasers such as a midway, a demolition derby and truck and tractor pulls, there are also many other reasons to come out to celebrate the area’s rich agricultural offerings.

View the many entries in the Agricultural hall. Find out who grows the best vegetables and flowers, whose culinary skills won them the most first prizes and admire the fine stitching on display in the quilting and leisure arts and crafts classes.

The school fair section gives local school children an opportunity to display their talent in penmanship, picture making, baking and sewing, as well as their collections.

The 4-H Club displays feature the life skills learned this past year.  There will be horse, cattle, sheep and goat shows, where the area’s best are in the show ring.

There is baby show, where every baby is a winner.  The Funky Mamas provide interactive family fun.

There will be local musicians and children showing off their pets.

Food booths will offer a favourite fair treats.

Children 12 and under are admitted free, adult admission is $10.
