CVC urges visitors to be cautious near waterways during the winter season

MISSISSAUGA – Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) reminds residents and visitors to its parks of the dangers near streams, rivers, ponds and lakes this time of year.

CVC urges people to exercise caution and keep family and pets away from the edges of all waterways and water bodies.

“We are experiencing frequent freeze-thaw cycles,” CVC officials say.

“Changing temperatures make ice conditions unpredictable and unstable.

“Streambanks are slippery and extremely cold water can be hazardous.”

CVC reminds the community to be safe this winter and remember the following tips:

avoid all recreational activities in or around water, including skating in unsanctioned areas; and

– follow staff instructions and signage throughout CVC conservation areas.
