Decals on Wellington North fire trucks is the newest way Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) is raising awareness for solving crime.
Wellington North Fire Chief Dave Guilbault and CSGW program Coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter unveiled the decals on the fire trucks and announced their partnership in solving crime at the Arthur fire station on July 15.
“We’re really happy to know that at least starting with Wellington North Fire Service, that we do have an awareness there, and it really snowballed from there,” said Bowers-Peter at the unveiling.
“Arson is a crime,” said Guilbault. “It is a crime and (we will do) anything we can do to have awareness in the community about crime, calling the tip number, getting these people behind bars to make sure they’re not out there setting fires.”
Bowers-Peter said the partnership is great because the fire trucks are out in so many events and parades Crime Stoppers is not able to reach at this point.
“It was a logical partnership because our fire services do care so much and are so active in our communities,” said Bowers-Peter.
Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox was also at the unveiling and called the new decals a great opportunity for the town and the public.
Firefighters with Wellington North Fire Services have also completed a training program that gives them grassroots awareness so they could be advocates for the program, explained Bowers-Peter.
She is hoping the idea will catch on in other municipalities.
