Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington earns CSI awards for TV, radio features

GUELPH – Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) earned two more awards from Crime Stoppers International (CSI) during the annual conference held last fall in Singapore.

The awards, in the Under 300,000 population category included: Best Media Television – Special Report/Feature with Wightman TV and Best Media Radio Feature with The Grand at 101’s Swap Talk.

“It’s exciting to bring these awards home to Guelph-Wellington and to highlight the amazing work of our local media,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, Program Coordinator for CSGW.

“Crime Stoppers was founded on the premise of support from the police, the public and the media. We could not do what we do without the support of the media, and these awards reinforce the tremendous support we receive.”

The Wightman TV episode featured the 30th anniversary celebration held in Mount Forest in August 2018.

The broadcast included the flag raising downtown, followed by the public barbecue and recognition of CSGW’s supporters.

The founding members of the program were also recognized. Wightman TV is a division of Wightman Telecom and is located in Clifford.

The May 2018 episode of Swap Talk explained the importance of fundraising for the program, and other awareness initiatives.

This is the third consecutive year that CSGW has been recognized at the international level.

“It is exciting to be recognized for the work we are doing in the City of Guelph and the County of Wellington,” said Bowers-Peter. “These awards are to reinforce with our communities that we strive to be the best possible program for them and give them the confidence to report crime safely and anonymously.”
