Crews working to restore power in Harriston

Crews are working to restore power and traffic, already  being detoured around downtown construction, is being rerouted around the repair work here.

Early this morning, May 29, about 2am, a hydro pole was damaged in Harriston at Young and Elora Street. Westario Power will be replacing the pole on Friday May 29, 2015 for most of the day. The intersection at Young and Elora is now closed and a temporary detour for traffic has been set up as follows. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Lorne St to Queen St. and Southbound traffic will be detoured down Margaret St to Raglan St. starting immediately and until further notice. ҬPower is out in many locations in Harriston as Westario conducts this repair. Updates will follow as to power being restored and detour routes.

“The Town of Minto apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused but are working to reopen the road as soon as possible,” states the town in a press release.

Adding to a hectic morning in Harriston, Minto Firefighters were called to a house fire on Maitland Street around 5am. No one was injured as firefighters contained the blaze to the upper floor of the house.

Firefighters have also responded to numerous calls this morning due to CO detectors being triggered by the power outage.
