County to spend $73,000 to replace museum roof

GUELPH – The county will contract a Breslau firm to replace the roof at the Wellington County Museum for $73,680.

Council approved the tender from Nedlaw Roofing Ltd. at its Sept. 26 meeting. The Breslau firm submitted the lowest of four bids for the project, with other submissions ranging from $104,849 to $233,428. Prices are exclusive of HST.

The replacement of  the sloped shingle roof at Wellington County Museum involves removing the roof system down to the existing wood deck and installing new shingles, underlay and sheet metal flashing and installing eavestrough below the slopeline. Wood decking is to be replaced as required.

Strategic plan

At the Sept. 26 meeting, county council also approved an information, heritage and seniors committee decision to hire a consultant to develop a strategic plan for the Wellington County Museum and Archives, with a budget of $30,000.

Two consultants responded to a request for proposals issued to five consultants that specialize in strategic planning for museums and archives.

The committee recommended awarding the contract to TCI Management Consultants of Toronto.  The company submitted the lower bid and was within the budget of $30,000.

Museum and archives administrator Janice Hindley noted in a committee  report that TCI Management has worked with many municipal museums and archives, most recently with the Bruce County Museum and Archives and the Grey Roots Museum, to complete strategic plans, space accommodation plans and business plan updates.
