Community encouraged to ‘Tartan Up’ as Fergus Scottish Festival offers a weekend of online entertainment

FERGUS – The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games decided in March to postpone its 2020 75th anniversary celebrations until 2021.

“Since then we have received an outpouring of support from our local community and festival patrons,” officials said in a press release.

“As a thank-you for all your well-wishes we are pleased to ‘Tartan Up’ and offer you a weekend full of community and virtual events.”

Officials encourage the public to tune into the festival website from Aug. 7 to 9 where organizers will be hosting a “Wee Digital Ceilidh.”

There will be content from some  regular musicians as well as original and never seen before presentations from highland dance, clans, heavy athletics and pipes and drums.

“Expect the unexpected as we bring you greetings from across the Fergus Scottish Festival community and plenty of fun, ‘wee surprise cameos’ from the performers and participants you look forward to seeing every year,” officials said.

In the community, downtown Fergus will be host to visual displays, highland dancers and the stirring sounds of pipes and drums.

“We encourage everyone to show their community spirit and help us celebrate the Fergus Scottish Festival and all things Scottish by participating in our ‘Tartan Up’ home and business decorating competition,” officials say. “There is also a special category for festival volunteers.”

Help paint the entire community tartan for a chance to win a prize sponsored by Your Hometown Realty.
