What were we thinking?

Dear Editor:

Five years ago the prime minister of our country said Justin Trudeau was “not ready.” And now, five years later, Trudeau has proven that he will never be ready.

Trading on a famous name, this part-time drama instructor parlayed his position with no experience to the most elevated responsibility in our country.

A huge international embarrassment has been the thanks to the electorate. The list is long:

- honouring  a ruthless deceased Cuban dictator;

- how about a $10-million payment to Omar Khadr?;

- an inordinately costly costume party in India.

Trudeau pretends to be a world leader, then making a commitment to impossible carbon reduction for Canada. In itself carbon reduction is an important task, but there is a significant disconnect here. He has the audacity to lecture us on our carbon consumption, while flying almost weekly, or more frequently, around the world for Hollywood-style photo ops and/or trying to trade on some family grief to have a publicity picture.

Then we have a runaway problem of illegal immigration.

And now the SNC-Lavalin scam, an effort to hijack our judicial system for his Quebec friends. To date the cost has only been his most trusted advisor, two of the most senior cabinet ministers and a caucus MP that has resigned in disgust.

And the spins from the PMO keep coming, a new spin with each new revelation.

An excuse that all was an effort to protect jobs, all contrary to the admission of SNC-Lavalin CEO. And where is he on the thousands of jobs already lost in Alberta ?

And now, contrary to balancing the national budget as promised, he is trying to buy us with our own money.

It seems that he does not understand that for the sake of the Liberal Party of Canada, which professes honorable and lofty ideals, a resignation is in order.

Failing that, we the people will imminently have the responsibility to ensure that he is one and done ... what were we ever thinking?

Peter Gates, PUSLINCH
