Health Care Heroes Radiothon raises over $340,000 for local hospitals

WINGHAM – The 19th Annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon has raised $342,677 for ten area hospitals.

“In a year marked by many event cancellations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CKNX Radiothon was uniquely able to proceed in spite of the challenging circumstances,” stated a press release from organizers.

“Though the studio remained closed to the public, with some ingenuity from the staff at CKNX and the Radiothon steering committee, the event was able to move forward with some minor modifications.”

Radiothon donations to the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation will go toward a new anaesthetic gas machine.

Donations to Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation will go towards equipment needed for surgical services at the Mount Forest hospital, including a nasoscope.

Broadcast on AM920, the event welcomed donations all day and featured interviews with health care professionals and volunteers detailing the equipment needs at each participating hospital.

When the radiothon went off air at 4pm, the grand total of funds raised on the day was $342,677.

“This total is expected to grow as the participating hospital foundations continue to accept donations towards their projects until the end of the year,” officials state.

The radiothon also raises funds for hospitals in Chesley, Clinton, Goderich, Hanover, Listowel, Seaforth, Walkerton and Wingham.

Since its inception in 2002, the CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon has raised more than $12 million for hospitals in mid-western Ontario.
