Brock McGinn signs $1.8-million extension with Carolina

After a breakout season, Fergus native Brock McGinn has signed a two-year extension with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

Announced on June 28, the deal is worth $1,775,000 or an average of $887,500 per year.

McGinn, 23, tallied 16 points in 57 games with the Hurricanes during the 2016-17 campaign.

Drafted by the Hurricanes in the second round (47th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, McGinn signed a three-year entry-level contract with the team in April of 2013.

He has split the last two seasons between the Hurricanes and their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

Brock is the youngest of three McGinn brothers from Fergus.

Tye spent last year with Tampa Bay Lightning’s AHL affiliate in Syracuse, while Jamie, the eldest, completed the first of a three-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes.
