Bowl for Kids Sake rolls in next weekend

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington is gearing up for Bowl for Kids Sake.

“It’s our major fund raising campaign each year, so we hope lots of local organizations, businesses and individuals sign up teams,” says executive director Jane Cooper.

On Feb. 26, Victoria Park Seniors Centre will host its popular Wii bowling tournament, from 9:30am to 1:30pm. On Feb. 28, from 9am to 6pm, 10-pin bowling will be held at Woodlawn Bowl, in Guelph.

Plaques are awarded to the winning teams representing various organizations and businesses in Centre Wellington.

“Earning that plaque is a matter of pride to the winners,” says Cooper. “The top fundraising teams get bragging rights for a whole year. The way some of them tease and needle their competition, it’s hilarious!”

Prizes are also awarded to individuals who raise the most money, including a weekend getaway for two at A La Gallarie B&B in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a $500 Via Rail travel credit, and supper and a Jays game for four.

The money raised helps pay for various Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, which serve more than 150 local children and include One-to-One matches, In-school mentoring, Group, Game On and Go-Girls.

Anyone interested in forming a team is invited to call the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at 519-787-0106.
