Boo Radley Project hosting first ‘Boospiel’

ELORA – The Elora Curling Club may be home to the first Boospiel in history.

It’s certainly a first for the Boo Radley Project, the seven-piece baroque indie-funk band from Elora/Guelph which announced March 9 that the “Boo Crew” is throwing its very own bonspiel.

The Boospiel is slated for March 18 at the Elora Curling Club and the two-hour games – both novice and intermediate draws – begin at 11:30.

Cost is $220 per team – four to six curlers per team.

The day includes pizza lunch, snacks from the Friendly Society and “excellent prizes,” states a press release.

Curlers will also be treated to a live concert by Boo Radley followed by a dance party with DJ Dance Tunes.

There will also be an instruction session for novice curlers before the first draw.

“Lots of great local teams have signed up so far … it’s going to be a really eclectic group of first time and experienced curlers next week,” states band member Leon Obrascovs in the release.

The bar will be open all day for beverage sales.

Obrascovs said while the day will be fun and chill, they will uphold the first cardinal rule of curling.

“The winners buy for the losers,” he said.

Brooms and sliders will be available for those who don’t own them. The band encourages leaving a healthy tip for the curling club’s junior curling program.

There are only 16 spots, and the Boo Crew anticipates space will fill up quickly.
