Best Bloomin”™ Plant Sale to be held May 24

The Fergus Horticultural Society’s annual “Best Bloomin’ Plant Sale” will be held May 24. The location of the sale is the stone house next to the Fergus’ Sportsplex on Belsyde Avenue, from 8 to 11am (rain or shine).

This year the sale is two weeks later because of the late spring. It’s always a popular event and gardeners line up early to get the best selection.

The sale features an extensive variety of local perennials and hybrid irises. These plants are selected from the society’s gardens as well as members’ personal collections.

Experienced gardeners know that perennials should be divided every three or four years to keep them vigorous.

The freshly potted perennials are conditioned to suit local weather conditions. Many of these plants are large specimens. As in other years, the collection will have rare, old favourities, newer introductions, herbs, ground covers and shade dwellers.

Society members will be on hand to assist with gardening questions.

Plant sale proceeds directly support beautification projects in the community. The society sponsors 23 local gardens including Templin Gardens, post office, hydro office, market square, Terry Fox Park, weigh scale building and various other sites throughout the town.

The society will also have memberships available at the sale which entitle shoppers to a 10% discount at selected nurseries and at the sale.
