Beer Store employee in Erin tests positive for COVID-19

ERIN – An employee at the Beer Store here has tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee last worked on Oct. 13 at the store, which is located in a plaza at 140 Main Street, Beer Store officials stated in an Oct. 22 press release.

Beer Store spokesperson Jim Warren told the Advertiser the employee started to feel symptoms on Oct. 18 or 19.

Officials were alerted to the positive COVID-19 test result late in the day on Oct. 21, he added.

The store was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized that evening and reopened for regular hours on Oct. 22.

Warren said due to the timing – since the employee’s last shift as well as with the onset of symptoms – company officials believe the risk to customers and other employees is low.

Nonetheless, “all potentially affected employees will self-isolate and symptom monitor as a precautionary measure,” officials stated.

“As our team member receives care, we are sending our positive thoughts and best wishes.”

Warren said store officials are working in consultation with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, noting that as per the company’s COVID-19 protocols, “all Beer Store employees working at this location were wearing face coverings.”
